Hi, I’m Ashley Austrew.
I’m an Omaha, Nebraska-based freelance journalist and writer. Welcome to my home on the Internet.
Once upon a time, I was a mommy blogger. I got my start in the parent blogging community, and then I progressed to writing paid parenting features and personal essays for a small site called Mommyish. I’ve since held editorial roles at Scary Mommy and CafeMom, and my work has been published by Cosmopolitan, Romper, Ravishly, SheKnows, and many other outlets.
I’m originally from Claremont, California, but I spent most of my adolescent and early adult life living in Dallas, Texas. I graduated from the University of North Texas in 2009 with a degree in English Literature. I then spent six incredible months living in Gwangju, South Korea, and teaching English at a private academy before returning to the U.S. to launch my writing career.
I’m passionate about mental health and body image, and you’ll find those topics referenced frequently in my posts here and on social media. I use this space as a portfolio but also as a blog for the more personal writing that I don’t always get to do in my day job. When I’m not working, you can usually find me in my garden, working on my latest cross stitching project, re-watching old Parks and Recreation episodes on Netflix, reading, traveling, or spending time with my husband, Zach, and our two awesome kids.
I’m always ready for the next opportunity, and I love working with new clients. To get in touch, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
